From The Land of the Ottoman Sultans
The Ottoman dynasty which started with its founder Osman Gazi in 1281 was in power for over 600 years. Not only is their empire one of the world's longest-lasting, in its prime it was also one of the largest. Aside from being the centre of government, the Topkap Palace, which was the residence of the Ottoman Sultans for about 400 years, was also the centre of art and culture. This catalogue, published in conjunction with the exhibition of the same name at the Asian Civilisations Museum, features some of the exquisite and remarkable examples of the Ottoman legacy. It showcases 125 beautiful artefacts, from the three premier museums in Istanbul, Turkey - Topkap Palace Musuem, the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts and the Istanbul Archaeological Museums.
