The building at 10 View Road is sited at the end of View Road, which is off Admiralty Road West in Woodlands. The site has three blocks and each block has three stories. The three blocks are connected by a corridor. The roof of the building features an unusual watchtower structure.
10 View Road once provided accommodation for the British Royal Naval Police from the 1950s to the early 1970s. It was also known for its time as View Road Hospital, a branch of Woodbridge Hospital (now the Institute of Mental Health) until the early 2000s.
Research into the building’s early history suggest that it started out as an unfinished British building before World War II. Some archival sources suggest that the building was completed during the Japanese Occupation of Singapore and used by the Japanese as a naval base.
After the war, the building was used by the British until it was handed over to the Public Works Department to be converted into a mental hospital.
The building was later converted to a foreign workers dormitory.
