Housed in an 80 years old clan association building, the Gan Heritage Centre seeks to honour and preserve the rich 2,500 years heritage of the Gan clan, celebrate the historic and cultural significance of the Gan ancestry which can be traced back to prominent Chinese historical figures such as a Chinese Emperor and the mother of the Confucius. The centre also seeks to uphold the clanship spirit while promoting its relevance in a modern, changing world.
With a comprehensive clan archive, the centre presents the story of the clan from the etymological origins of the Gan surname to the massive migration of the Gan community and the contribution of Gan businessmen in shaping Singapore. It also serves as a living museum that encourages interaction with the younger audience in search of their ancestral roots and cultural identity.
