Initially named SAFTI Exhibition Centre (SEC), the centre was opened in 1996 to focus on instilling in Singaporeans a sense of confidence in the future of Singapore and in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF). The centre differs from the traditional museum in that visitors can enjoy state-of-the-art simulators and interactive exhibits, hence making it a “ discovery centre”.
In 1996, SEC was renamed the Singapore Discovery Centre (SDC) and in 2005, it underwent a major redevelopment to meet the changing needs of National Education.
