Commonly known as God of Heaven or Tiangong 天公, the Jade Emperor is the most supreme in the Chinese popular pantheon of gods. Due to his overwhelming popularity, he was incorporated into the Daoist pantheon. His cult probably evolved from an ancient worship of nature, in particular, that of heaven and the sky. As a celestial emperor with many ‘official’ gods reporting to him, he oversees all who exist in both heaven and earth.
