This is a membership booklet belonging to a member of the Singapore Pork Merchants Association (Xinjiapo tu shang gong hui 新加坡屠商公会). The organisation, formed in 1934, was the representative body for Chinese pork merchants in Singapore. The booklet contained the personal information of the member it belonged to, which would include the member’s name, age, sex, as well as the person who introduced him/her into the organisation. A seal found on the first page of the booklet indicated that the original owner of the booklet was a recipient of mutual aid funds from the association. This meant that the Association would provide financial assistance to the member in times of need.
