Floral print chiffon evening dress with ruffles and velvet belt

When Frida Giannini was appointed as the creative director of Gucci in 2006, she expanded the brand to include menswear and children's wear, widening its commercial appeal. She experimented with multiple different influences and sources of inspiration for her collection, and while her first collection was dismissed by fashion critics, it was incredibly popular in stores. This dress was from her Fall- Winter collection which was inspired by nineteenth-century pre-Raphaelites and the later Decadent art movement, with rich materials, deep colours and floral prints. This dress was selected by the Gucci branch in Singapore, which purchased it along with other pieces for fashion shoots and promoting the collection here. After the season, these pieces were sold at reduced prices and acquired by David Tan, a professor of law at the National University of Singapore, fashion collector, and fine art fashion photographer.
