Kebaya

This lilac kebaya from Bebe Seet is in silk organza rather than cotton as in traditional pieces, making it extra sheer and light. It is intricately embroidered with flowers and butterflies, and features kerawang (lattice cutwork) design that resembles roots or vines of the plants. The designer matched this with a silk sarong to her daughter’s wedding in Tuscany, as a mark of her Peranakan identity.Bebe Seet is the founder of Rumah Bebe, a boutique that offers Peranakan cuisine and fashion. As a Singaporean, Peranakan designer specialising in beaded shoes and bags, she has also been conducting beading classes since 1995. She is well-known for reviving the art of Peranakan beadwork
