The kebaya is made of white floral lace accentuated with two panels of blue and gold beads. The gara features intricate silk thread handiwork inspired by traditional Parsi embroidery, with flora and fauna that symbolise purity and protection. The repeating patterns on the borders are made to match the embroidered centre. Like many pieces designed by Kavita Thulasidas, the fabrics were woven and embroidered in India then pieced together in Singapore. Founded in the 1950s, Stylemart is an Indian fashion boutique that began as a tailoring business. In 1999, Kavita Thulasidas took over the multi-generation family business. She has recollections of travelling to India with her mother for merchandising trips, on which she learned to appreciate the crafts of textile weaving and embroidery. Her boutique is predominantly known for made-to-measure designs that draw inspiration from Western silhouettes and Asian artistry.
