National flag made for National Day

This national flag was produced by Lucky Teaching Aids for National Day celebrations in the 1990s. A local company that was established in the 1950s, Lucky Teaching Aids was one of the first to mass-produce state flags in 1959, the year the flag was designed when Singapore attained self-government. The crescent moon and stars on this flag were silk screen hand printed, which used to be machine-stitched, one of the company’s selling points until it became too costly to do so. Besides the national flag, Lucky Teaching Aids also produced banners, buntings and triangular pennants for National Day up to 2001, while manufacturing teaching aids such as blackboards formed another part of its business.
