These tiles are from a section of the tomb shoulders from the grave of Mr Lim Chor Khng, who passed away on 12 June 1938 at the age of 63. Mr Lim's grave was one of over 3,700 graves that were exhumed between 2013 and 2014 for the construction of a new road through Bukit Brown Cemetery. These moulded polychrome tiles enhanced the visual appeal of the tomb shoulders, while revealing the aesthetic preferences of the deceased and his family. The tiles are also an example of the global material culture present at the cemetery; they were probably produced by Danto Kaisha, one of the leading tile manufacturers in Japan.
