Each of these rare criollas show a bird holding a rice stalk in its beak. It is possible to allude this image to the Bannatiran, a bird native to the Illocos region, in the northern part of the Philippines. The Bannatiran is also the title and subject of a popular Ilocano folk song. These earrings reportedly belonged to the donor’s great-grandmother, Lina Ortaliz Montilla (1868-1939).
