This is a face mask designed and produced by YeoMama Batik. YeoMama Batik is a homegrown fashion label which marries traditional Asian batik textiles with functional and modern design. In July 2020 in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, YeoMama Batik decided to sell masks made from the off cuts of their fabric. Masks had become an item of daily use for Singaporeans, as a government law saw mask wearing made mandatory as a measure to curb the spread of COVID-19 in Singapore. This mask is from the first batch of masks that YeoMama Batik launched, which sold out within a day. These masks met a societal demand for masks that were not only functional, but also fashionable. The sale of YeoMama Batik’s masks also raised funds for charities in Singapore, representing the creative and compassionate response of local firms and businesses during the COVID-19 period in Singapore’s history.
