This COVID-19 Fighter badge was produced by the National University Healthcare System (NUHS) to commemorate the first 100 days of the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in Singapore as well as the contributions of frontline healthcare workers. 24,000 badges were given out to all NUHS staff, as well as external service vendors such as dormitory volunteers, temporary staff, housekeepers, SIA care coordinators, locums, and residents.COVID-19 is a respiratory illness caused by a novel coronavirus. It was first identified in December 2019 in China, and Singapore's first case was confirmed on 23 January 2020. Local transmission of the virus began in February and spread especially quickly through clusters in migrant workers' dormitories. Numerous measures were implemented by the government, including a 'Circuit Breaker' period from 7 April to 1 June 2020 where residents were encouraged to stay at home.Singapore's healthcare system was actively engaged in responding to COVID-19, from providing critical medical care for COVID-19 patients in hospitals and amongst the community to advancing research and innovation with reference to the virus.
