Block 19 Jalan Sultan was built in 1974 following the Central Area clearance for public housing in central Singapore. The Crawford area, where the block is situated, used to be populated by shophouses. The land clearance and subsequent construction of public housing was meant as a revitalisation of the Central Area. The block is located near iconic landmarks like the Golden Mile Complex, Golden Mile Tower, Textile Centre and Sultan Plaza.
