Jalan Bukit Ho Swee was the site of Singapore’s first large-scale construction project carried out by the Housing Development Board from 1961 onwards. Block 8 was one of the public housing blocks built by the HDB. The estate’s two- and three-room flats, also built in 1962, were the first flats to undergo Singapore’s first-ever public housing upgrading programme – the Main Upgrading Programme – from 1994 to 1995.
