Maung Htun Hla (1874-1946), later known as M T Hla is known for his watercolours on paper depicting familiar landscapes of Burma and portraits of different ethnic types of Myanmar, then known as Burma. Sold primarily at the Smart and Mookerdum bookshop in Rangoon, these works were directed at a Western audience, keen to purchase souvenirs of their time in Myanmar. Works such as this represent the idyllic through the religious buildings, the untarnished landscape and the everyday life of people.
