Recorded in this Qur'an is the name of the owner as “al-Shaykh al-Imam al-Hafiz Muhammad”. The combination of such honorifics as ‘Shaykh’ (master), ‘Imam’ (prayer leader) and ‘Hafiz’ (one who has memorised the entire Qur’an) suggests that the former owner was an important religious figure. This Qur'an contains illuminated doublespreads at the beginning, middle and end - a prevailing feature of Quranic manuscripts from the Nusantara. Sulawesi Qur’ans are distinguished by the additional texts that are compiled at the beginning and end of the main Qur’anic text. Of note is a text on the frequency of occurences of Arabic huruf (letters) throughout the Qur’an, visually presented in a fanned-out palm design that is emblematic of West Sulawesi Qur’ans.
