This National Coat of Arms (also known as the State Crest) was made in the Baharuddin Vocational Institute (1965-1990) and displayed in the old Parliament House prior to the Parliament’s move to the new Parliament House in 1999. Officially adopted on 3 December 1959 at the installation of Singapore’s first local Yang di-Pertuan Negara (Head of State) Yusof bin Ishak, the National Coat of Arms embodies Singapore’s values and ideals, and was introduced to unite and instill loyalty amongst people of the new self-governing multiracial state.
