Letters to POWs were mainly sent through their respective Red Cross societies. This is an example of the form that was filled up by the family of Private Edward William Wallin. The message that they wanted to send through the Australian Red Cross society reads: 'Dear Ted, Longing to hear from you, hope you are well and cheerful. Everything fine at home, hope you receiving our letters. Dearest love, Peg, Mum'. Wallin was part of the 2/4th Machine Gun Battalion and was captured during the fall of Singapore. He was interned in the Selarang Barracks at Changi for the rest of the war bar a period in 1943-44 where he was sent to Thailand to work on the railway as part of the F Force.
