This is a letter to Private Edward William Wallin from his family. It was posted on 28 August 1943 and received on 7 May 1944, pointing to the long delays that plagued the transit of POW mail. In the letter, Wallin's mother apologises for not writing to him on his birthday, and that they "will make it all up to you when you come back home again". On the back of the letter is another message from an Aunt which urges him to "keep smiling". There are also some handwritten notes detailing the timeline of Wallin's internment.
