This underglaze blue and white dish is decorated with an image of a crane in a lake or stream surrounded by vegetation. Ceramics made at the Zhangzhou kilns were commonly known as "Swatow ware" due to the mistaken belief that they were shipped from the port of Shantou (Swatow). It’s now believed they were shipped from Yuegang in Zhangzhou province. These wares were mainly made for export to Japan and Southeast Asian countries such as Indonesia, the Philippines, and Malaysia, where such ceramics were highly prized.
