Lidded jar with four lugs

This globular jar with four lugs on its shoulder is covered with a creamy-white glaze that falls short of the lowest section of the body. Although celadon wares were the best-known product of the Sawankhalok kilns, the potters also made ceramics covered in other monochrome glazes such as that on this jar. The Sawankhalok kilns in north-central Thailand began producing glazed stonewares around the mid-14th century. During the peak period of Sawankhalok’s export trade (15th–early 16th century), some 1,000 kilns may have been in operation
