The Namazie family was a prominent business family of Persian-Indian origin, who settled in Singapore in the early 20th century. Apart from their mercantile businesses, they also owned rubber and palm plantations, residential and commercial property in Singapore and Madras, and also built and owned the Capitol Theatre. This trophy was won by Mirza Mohamed Ali Namazie, the founder and managing director of the firms of Messrs MA Namazie and Sons, which was a well-known mercantile firm. MA Namazie owned several racehorses and this trophy was one by one of his horses in 1927.
