This piece features enameled pheasants among rockery, peonies and flowers. Both the interior and exterior rim is surrounded by the Eight Buddhist Emblems. The exterior is decorated with three groups of floral sprays design. White ground pieces in particular formed part of a larger dining ware service. The base bears the mark of “Guangxu nian Wang Wan Yuan” (光绪年王萬源). As the mark does not bear characters such as Zao (造) or Zhi (制), which is an important characteristic of shop marks and potters’ marks, this mark could possibly a commissioned mark.Nyonyaware is a term used to refer to Chinese export porcelain made possibly in Jingdezhen to suit the taste of Peranakan Chinese communities in insular Southeast Asia (Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia).
