This curiously shaped pendant is known as a Lingling-o. Such pendants are used either as an earring or a necklace by tribal communities in the north of the island of Luzon in the Philippines. Similar pendants are found in other areas within the Philippines and other coastal areas surrounding the South China Sea including Taiwan and Vietnam. Some have been dated to as early as 500 BCE. Lingling-o are regarded by the Ifugao, Bontoc and Kalinga in the Luzon Cordilleras mountains as potent fertility charms and are often given as wedding gifts.
