Lim is a “second generation” photographer who was also a member of the Photographic Society in the 1965. Lim’s photos show the transition from pictorial style photography to documentary. The influence of pictorial aesthetics can be seen in the composition, lighting, and careful tonal range, his later works takes on life in Singapore, with no set-up subject matter or poses. Lim himself consciously decided to avoid typical “salon” subjects from the 1970s onwards, and believed that the shot had to be “realistic”.
