Ong Seng Chew was the secretary of the Photographic Society of Singapore in the 1960s. He was listed by the Photographic Society of America in 1969 as amongst the top in the category of Pictorial Print Photography. He had also participated widely in salon exhibitions all over the world. These works featuring subjects such as fishing, construction workers and dramatic scenes are typical examples of pictorial photography in Singapore. Pictorial photography which emphasized beauty through composition, clarity and fine tonal contrasts.
