This certificate was issued to Leong Choy Wah, who had majored in English while studying for her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Malaya before the independence of Singapore. She got her Diploma in Education at the same university a few years later, and went on to teach for the rest of her career until she retired. Choy Wah taught English and Geography at the Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus (CHIJ) at Victoria Street, known as CHIJMES today. The University of Malaya was the predecessor to the University of Singapore (1962), which later became the National University of Singapore in 1980.
