View of a Chinese Junk at the entrance of the Straits of Malacca

This drawing shows a Chinese trading junk at the entrance of the Straits of Malacca, with Parcelar Hill (today Bukit Jurga in Selangor, Malaysia) in the background. It was taken from a sketchbook of the voyage of the Elphinstone, a British East India Company ship launched in 1824. The ship, an 18-gun sloop, was captained by Henry H Sumner and operated out of London.
