This drawing was taken from a sketchbook of the voyage of the Elphinstone, a British East India Company ship launched in 1824. The ship, an 18-gun sloop, was captained by Henry H Sumner and operated out of London. At the centre of the drawing is a houseboat, most probably used by Europeans, while the foreground features a small perahu.
