This drawing of three perahus was taken from a sketchbook of the voyage of the Elphinstone, a British East India Company ship launched in 1824. The ship, an 18-gun sloop, was captained by Henry H Sumner and operated out of London. Perahus were native boats used among the Malays, Javanese and Bugis in the East Indies.
