This is a piece of batik with 55 different patterns. This “example” batik was common in the late 19th century and used to show during expositions abroad. The patterns include classical Javanese patterns such as diagonally formatted knifes (parang rusak) and geometric shapes (ceplok) variations. These designs are subtle in their size and colours. Deep indigo and dark soga brown are preferred hues for the patterns. They are important records of many traditional court style batik patterns that are available then.
