Group of NAW bottle caps (5)

These metal tooth crown bottle caps are attractive. The small flat objects are not only functional as they are meant to grip the flange on the bottle neck but also serve as surfaces for various logos and brand names. They were the most common types of bottle caps before the arrival of the screw caps. The early crown caps came with a cork seal and a paper backing. This was later modified to become a cap that could be twisted and with the help of an opener. That these trademarks are all of the National Aerated Water Company make it more significant. Further the caps also show names of popular drinks that were consumed during this period.
