Fraser and Neave bottle with flip top ceramic lid

Bottles in the late 19th century were made from blown glass and usually sealed with cork, which were quite difficult to open. Then lids with harnesses began to be used. This particular Fraser and Neave glass bottle comes with a flip top lid made of ceramic. Held together by a metal harness the lid can be 'flipped' open easily. The first flip top bottle stopper was created by Charles de Quillfeldt and patented in 1875. Fraser and Neave was founded by John Fraser and David Neave in 1883 to start the first aerated water business and went on to become a local icon in bottled drinks.
