The original recipe for Brand’s Essence of Chicken dates to the early 19th century and to Henderson.William Brand who was the royal chef in Buckingham palace. To help ailing King George IV recover his health, Brand devised an essence of chicken drink. In 1835, Brand retired and created his Brand’s Essence of Chicken for commercial sale to the sick. In 1897, the monarchy issued a Royal Warrant thus providing a strong endorsement for the product. By the 1920s, this well-known tonic began to be sold in Asia where it proved to be a great success as a health supplement In 1999, the first Brand’s Museum opened in Taiwan.
