This tin is very significant as it shows several interesting details. First it’s a tin for storing Jacob’s extra light cream crackers. The cream crackers – flat square savoury biscuit which can be eaten by itself or with toppings was first manufactured by William Jacob in 1885 in Ireland. Since then they have been very popular all over the world especially in South East Asia including Singapore. They are distinguished form other biscuits for they are made from fermented dough. Despite its name, there is no cream and it is basically unsweetened and comprises of flour, fat and salt. Being simple the recipe has been followed various other companies including Khong Guan.
