Singapore company Prima Limited was founded in 1961 by Cheng Tsang Man (1916-2013). The flour mill located at Keppel Road was granted pioneer status and opened in 1963 by then then Minister for Finance, Goh Keng Swee. In 1969 it became a public company listed on the Stock Exchange of Singapore and Malaysia.Prima in Latin means first. The Chinese name of the company, Bai Ling Mai means " a hundred year old wheat." With its beginnings in the 1960s - the decades when Singapore was being industiralized, Prima Limited is an example of the numerous local food companies that contributed to the economy.
