This pair of beaded panels is decorated with qilins, flowers, Chinese-style architecture and auspicious motifs using glass beads and the netted beadwork technique. During festive occasions like weddings, Peranakans used various, elaborate, decorative textiles and objects for ceremonies and presentation. Early pieces of silk and metal-thread embroidery show more Chinese or Malay influences, by the 20th century, European-inspired beadwork became popular.
