Bomb Sculptures was exhibited in Tang Mun Kit’s first solo show at the former National Museum Art Gallery in 1991. Titled “Ideals and Ideas”, the works in this show were Tang’s personal reflections on war and its reverberations on society and its people, especially during a time in history when the troubling effects of events like the Gulf War rippled through a distant Singapore – a small nation precariously susceptible to the influence of global forces. Within this context, these works can be seen collectively as a contemplation on man’s place in the world, and by extension, on the local citizen’s vulnerability in the fast-evolving republic.
