This blue kebaya is made using a dotted fabric, embellished with embroidered floral motifs around its border and sleeves. It is used during mourning periods as somber colours of black, blue and green were considered appropriate for the occasion in the 20th century. The kebaya is a loose open jacket favoured by Peranakan women from the late 19th to mid 20th century, and was worn together with a batik sarong (tubular skirtcloth).
