Kebaya

This green kebaya is made using a checked fabric, embellished with floral embroidery along the borders. It is used during mourning periods by Peranakans. Sombre colours of black, blue and green were considered appropriate for mourning periods in the 20th century. This white kebaya features lace flower motif on its V-shaped lapels and sleeves. The kebaya is a loose open jacket favoured by Peranakan women from the late 19th to mid 20th century, and was worn together with a batik sarong (tubular skirtcloth).
