This black baju panjang features a checked pattern. Sombre colours of black, blue and green were considered appropriate for mourning periods in the 20th century by Peranakans. Traditionally, the mourning periods could last up to three years and the colours gradually become lighter as the months past. Peranakans wear a variety of clothing which reflect their hybrid styles and identities.
