This literature was published by Yong Cheng printing house—a local printing press (永成书庄) in Chinatown. The publication features illustrations in the first few pages with the rest of the book containing the “script” for a song performance popular at Cantonese teahouses. Chen Shi Mei is a Chinese opera named after a heartless and unfaithful man who married a princess and ordered the murder of his first wife. He was later put on trial by Justice Bao Zheng and beheaded.
