This is a rare stereoscopic card of prominent Qing court official Li Hongzhang.When seen through a stereoscope, these two-dimensional images create an illusion of three-dimensional depth. This techonology was first demonstrated at the Great Exhibition of 1851. This particular image was probably produced for a western market, curious about China and Chinese culture.
