Lim Nee Soon (1879-1936) played a pivotal role in opening up northern Singapore, inclusive of present-day Sembawang, Marsiling and Yishun, for settlement.In 1921, he commissioned a biography of himself to be written and published in Shanghai, China. It was in this book that the group photograph of the founding members of the Tong Meng Hui Singapore branch was first published.
