This account of the British invasion of Java in 1811 was compiled by Major William Thorn, a member of that expedition which resulted in the establishment of an interim British administration on the island with Thomas Stamford Raffles as Lieutenant-Governor. The book contains maps and charts, particularly a large folding map of Java island, and aquatints by the London artist and engraver Joseph Jeakes largely of views of Batavia and coastal towns of Java.
