John Skinner’s contemporary English account: The Amboyna massacre took place in 1623 in light of mounting rivalry between the English and Dutch East India Companies in the spice trade. This resulted in ten English men in the service of the English East India Company being tortured, imprisoned and eventually executed by the Dutch. Providing an ‘English’ perspective to this incident “Ambon Massacre”, this book became a significant source for anti-Dutch propaganda in the 17th century.
