This aerial view of downtown Singapore and the Singapore River presents a bustling and developed city with its heartbeat along the Singapore River. The lineup of tongkang along Boat Quay amid trading offices and godowns (prior to the cleanup of the river and banning of trading activities on the River in the late 1970s) forms the foreground of this postcard. The highest building seen in this postcard is High Street Centre, which opened in 1974 with 31 storeys. This is one of the many postcards produced by S Abdul Majeed & Co. who was responsible for postcards depicting various places of interest in Singapore as well as different parts of Malaysia. The merlion symbol on the top right corner of the reverse side of the postcard suggests that this postcard was printed after 1966, as the symbol was registered as a Singapore Tourist Promotion Board (STPB) trademark in 1966. Other than the merlion symbol, the coconut tree (representative of Southeast Asia and the tropics), and an outline of the island of Singapore on this postcards reinforces the location of this scene.
