Postcard depicting tongkang along Singapore River

The lineup of tongkang or bumboats used for ferrying goods along the Singapore River would have been a familiar sight prior to the early 1980s before the government commenced the cleaning up of the Singapore River. This postcard captures the shophouses or "old-fashioned godowns" (as captioned on the back od the postcard) at Boat Quay and the loading and unloading of goods at the quayside.
